Theme parks around the world from Europe to the United States have incorporated virtual reality headsets to enhance the roller coaster experience. Below, we’ve listed the 5 most awesome and outrageous roller coasters with VR any coaster junkie would love!
#1: Alpenexpress Coastiality
The Alpenexpress Coastiality VR coaster is located in Europa Park in Austria. On the Europa Park site, this is how they describe the ride:
“Futuristic worlds will unfold before your very eyes whilst you simultaneously experience the rushing air, centrifugal force, and twists and turns of a real world roller coaster.”
Riders can choose from five virtual reality experiences including Ed and Edda – The Mine Express (video is above), Sky Explorers, Schellen-Ursli, Paddington, and Alpha Mods P.D. To pull off this unique VR coaster experience, Europa Park collaborated with VR Coaster, Mack Rides, MackMedia, and Samsung.
#2: The New Revolution
The New Revolution, located at Six Flags Magic Mountain in Los Angeles, is one of the most popular virtual reality roller coasters. It was also the first roller coaster to have virtual reality in North America. Wearing Samsung Gear VR headsets, riders try to save the planet from an alien invasion. In your own spacecraft, you battle the aliens, drones, and the mother ship. From the description of this coaster, it sounds like the plot of Independence Day.
#3: Kraken Unleashed
Encounter the legendary sea monster, the Kraken, in this Seaworld virtual reality roller coaster. You explore the undersea world, see some sharks, and try to escape from the Kraken! This ride has 7 inversions and is Orlando’s only floorless coaster.
#4: Galactica
Located at Alton Towers Resort in the United Kingdom, Galactica VR roller coaster transports you through space and time. This ride became the World’s first virtual reality roller coaster back in 2016. On it, you become a galactinaut who explores the universe and goes on a thrilling adventure.
#5: Superman The Ride
It’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s Superman! You can see Superman in action on the Six Flags New England Superman The Ride Virtual Reality Coaster. The ride’s story is that Lex Luthor used his anti-gravity gun and Lexbots to create chaos in Metropolis. As always, Superman saves the day!
