At the Apple Keynote on September 12, 2018, the company made several announcements including:
- The Newly Unveiled iPhone Xs, Xs Max, and Xr.
- They Discontinued the iPhone X, SE, and 6s.
- The new A12 Bionic chip.
- The Apple Watch 4.
- The macOS Mojave coming out on Sept. 24th.
However, one announcement trumped them all… their new iPhones will no longer include a free dongle! This comes as a disappointment to the many iPhone users who still use wired earbuds and headphones.
Now, Apple is charging an additional $9 for those who want a dongle. You would think a company who’s worth a lot of $$$ could still offer a free dongle to customers? Apparently not. And I’m not the only one fuming about this!
Many Apple fans commented on Twitter about the free dongle situation:

AND adding to the story: No more headphone jack dongle included in the box. A trillion dollar company just removed a simple accessory that costs pennies to manufacture. The proprietary dongles are basically pure profit for @apple. (That’s why they sell 23 different kinds now.) pic.twitter.com/lnCF41g3IO

Apple is genius at making money and screwing customers. They remove the headphone jack and then charge a fortune for a dongle that gives you back access to a headphone joke. Somehow this is considered “progress”.

I love my @Apple products, but two things:
1. Removing the dongle adapter from iPhone packages so we have to purchase it separately is absurd and shows how little they care about their loyal customers and how much they value profits.
2. Is It really called a dongle adapter? ?— Abraham John (@aBillionSkies) September 13, 2018
I’m still tripping that Apple took away something they EVERYBODY used, made YOU pay for it with a dongle, and jacked up the cost of the dongle from pennies for them to $10-$20 for you. You’re overpaying for your headphone jack. That is grade A scammery.

Honestly Apple has become so money hungry that I might switch to a different brand when I buy my next phone. It’s pretty low to take away the headphone jack AND then take away the dongle.

Apple’s way to make up for getting rid of the free dongle is by including EarPods with Lightning Connector with all new iPhones. In my opinion as an Apple customer, I don’t want to feel pressured to purchase additional items to use my headphones. However, in the future, the free dongle not being offered will not deter me and many others from purchasing an iPhone.
