First announced last Thursday during a weekly update, Fortnite Battle Royale’s new game mode has officially gone live. The new “Blitz” game mode takes everything players love about Fortnite and presses fast-forward. While a standard match can last upwards of 30 minutes, the new Blitz mode will end after 15.
To account for these shorter matches, a number of gameplay elements have been slightly tweaked. Treasure chests and ammo boxes will appear more frequently. Floor spawns will almost always come with an item to pickup. And even rare supply drops will show up more often, falling to the ground at an accelerated pace.

The Storm Rages On
Aside from the increased loot chance, another major difference you’ll notice while playing Blitz is the shorter storm intervals. In a normal match, you typically have a minute or two to hunt for supplies before you’re forced to avoid the storm. In Blitz mode however, the storm will already be closing in on the island before you even deploy your parachute. This heavily restricts the playable areas of the map, forcing players to land closer to one another. All in all, this leads to a much more intense, faster paced game.
Should I Play Blitz?
This faster game mode is perfect for those of you who don’t have the time to sit down and play video games for hours on end. Or for the millions of mobile gamers out there who just want to play a game or two while they take the bus or ride the train. If you happen to fall into the later category, you’re in luck. Fortnite Battle Royale recently launched on iPhone devices (though right now, it’s invitation only). So the next time you want to play Fortnite, consider giving the mobile version a try. It’s the same full game you enjoy on PC and console, just in the palm of your hand. And you can still battle against your friends as well. Just make sure they don’t spy on your cell phone and find out where you’re hiding!
